Currently halfway through the series, slowly making my way to the latest one. I first picked up Black Order on a whim when I lived in India, and was happy to discover that the books seem to be just as popular here in the US where I now live. After the vision, Nyx is joined by a band of fellow misfits on a treacherous journey to find her father, avoid a vengeful king and stop the cosmic event that could destroy her universe. I'm honestly surprised that there's barely any online discourse about these books, since I see them in the Bestsellers and Action/Sci-Fi sections all the time at bookstores. (Not to mention how attractive the characters seem to be, I need Gray Pierce or Painter Crowe, or both, to - anyways.) I honestly enjoy these books more than many other higher-rated works. If I donned my critical hat, I wouldn't say they're exceptionally well-written or anything like that, but they are engaging, fulfilling stories that abound with kernels of intriguing facts and feature fleshed out, interesting characters. Booklist (Starred Review) To save mankind’s future, the members of Sigma Force must make a devil’s bargain as they join forces with their most hated enemy to stop an ancient threat in this gripping adventure from 1 New York Times bestselling author James Rollins. Most of the plots are rooted in mysteries, both historical and scientific, and offer the author's sci-fi-like take on them. (Starred Review) One of the best in the series. The series follows a crew of ex-military/special forces scientists (basically scientists with guns, as the author himself describes it) on their adventures against massive global threats.
